Junior Reporter/Journalist

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, motivated journalist to join our growing team. You will support our editors to ensure our websites are consistently providing high quality uncovering daily stories across our media platforms, Business of Cannabis and Cannabis Health.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep on top of the latest news and developments across the sector, pitching and covering daily stories 
  • Stay updated on current events, industry trends, and emerging news topics
  • Support the team with producing sponsored/commercial content as required
  • Generate creative and engaging ideas for multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, and infographics.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines of journalism, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
  • Conduct research, gather information, and fact-check news stories.
  • Conduct interviews with relevant sources and industry experts.
  • Attend events, press conferences, and meetings to cover news stories when appropriate 
  • Maintain relationships with key contacts, such as PR professionals, sources, and contributors.
  • Assist in managing and updating social media platforms with news content.
  • Provide editorial support to wider marketing team as required 

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • NCTJ qualification (desirable but not essential)
  • Minimum of two years experience in a newsroom environment, either print or online 
  • Some experience in B2B journalism preferred
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with excellent grammar and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to operate under pressure, work to deadlines and manage workload effectively
  • Knowledge of media law, ethics and best practice
  • Familiarity with multimedia and digital tools used in journalism (e.g. content management systems, social media management tools, video editing software).
  • Basic understanding of SEO principles and Google Analytics, including tools such as Google Trends etc. 
  • You may be required to have some flexibility to work irregular hours and travel when necessary.
