Medical cannabis — overview

Denmark’s estimated medical cannabis market size for 2025 is over €3.5 million.

The medical cannabis pilot programme launched in 2018, allowing doctors to prescribe unauthorised products. It created a framework for cultivation, manufacturing, imports/exports, and opened a commercial market. Initially due to end December 2021, it has been extended to December 2025.

In November 2024, the Danish Government decided to make the pilot permanent, allowing a permanent framework for cultivation, manufacturing, and exports.

Denmark has become a significant producer/exporter, supplying Europe and Australia. In 2024, Denmark exported 7 tonnes to Germany, making it a top player after Canada and Portugal.
