Spain's medical cannabis framework reaches patients after one year delay

More than a year after Royal Decree 903/2025 came into force, Spain's first standardised cannabis preparations are reaching around 50 hospitals this week, with a national rollout expected by the end of October. Curaleaf remains the only one of four licensed cultivators to have registered products with AEMPS. Prescribing is limited to hospital specialists across four indications as a last resort, and advocates warn most of Spain's estimated 300,000 medical users will stay in the illicit market.
